Education and qualifications

Graduate studies

In 1976, he enrolled in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, Study Group Molecular Biology and Physiology.

Graduated in 1981 with an average grade of 9,8.


Postgraduate studies

He completed his postgraduate studies in Biophysics at the Center for Multidisciplinary Studies, University of Belgrade, in 1985 with an average grade of 9.6. He defended his master's thesis entitled: "Thermal dependence of membrane water transport on a model system of the internodal cell of the alga Chara gymnophylla".


Doctorate

In 1991, at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Belgrade, he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "Biophysical basis of experimental modulation of membrane transport using the example of giant cells of Characeae algae"

Movement in service

1984. employed at the Institute of General and Physical Chemistry (IOFH) in Belgrade, as a research associate

1984-1994 Head of the Bio-laboratory of the IOFH.

1994. Associate of the IOFH on scientific programs concerning biophysical research of membrane transport.

In 1989, he was appointed assistant professor at the Department of General Physiology and Biophysics, Faculty of Biology (FB) in Belgrade. (subjects: Experimental Physiology, General Physiology with Biophysics and General and Systems Physiology).

1992. Assistant Professor at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, Faculty of Biology, for the subjects Fundamentals of Systems Biophysics and Biophysics II.

1994-1996 teaches the course Experimental Physiology I.

Since 1996, he has been teaching the course General Physiology with Biophysics and Ecobiophysics.

In 1997, he became Head of the Biophysics Department and Master's Degree Programs in General Physiology and Systems Biophysics and Immunobiology.

Head of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics 1993 – 1994 and 1998 – 2006

In January 1999, he became an associate professor for the subject General Physiology with Biophysics. From 2003 to 2006, he was the director of the Institute of Physiology and Biochemistry, Faculty of Biology.

Since December 2003, full professor in the scientific field of General Physiology and Biophysics.

Since 2004, founder and head of the Center for Laser Microscopy at the Faculty of Biology. 2005-2006, Vice-Dean for Science at the Faculty of Biology.

Since 2006, head of the program (later module) of doctoral studies in Neuroscience at the Faculty of Biology.

Research area

Electrophysiology, ion channel biophysics, Ca2+ signaling, biomarkers of neurodegenerative processes, cellular basis of neurodegenerative diseases;

Techniques: electrophysiology (“patch-clamp”), confocal microscopy, ion imaging, NMR/MRI.
