Doctoral study program Biology is organized and implemented by the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, in cooperation with teachers and scientists from 9 scientific institutes and 4 faculties from Serbia.
The study program carries a total of 180 ECTS credits, lasts 3 years and includes fifteen modules: Algology, Cell and tissue biology, Biology of microorganisms, Animal developmental biology, Cellular and molecular oncology, Experimental and applied botany, Entomology, Evolutionary biology, Plant physiology and molecular biology, Genetics, Genotoxicology, Mycology, RPlant biology with basics of aquaculture, Systematic botany и Zoology. Two compulsory subjects are organized that are unique to the study program and related to the preparation of a doctoral dissertation, five compulsory seminars and work on the preparation of a doctoral dissertation. For all submodules, classes are organized from a larger number of elective subjects that are organized into a single elective block. For each module, one of the elective subjects is defined as a compulsory elective for a given module. Each student acquires 45 ECTS credits from elective subjects during the course of their studies.
The program is implemented through: (1) active teaching, which includes lectures, exercises, other forms of interactive teaching and study research work, and (2) individual work of students. Monitoring the implementation of the program is the responsibility of the module leader and the Doctoral Studies Committee, which consists of the leaders of all modules. The leading teacher is responsible for organizing teaching within his/her subject. As a rule, the leading teacher engages several lecturers on call, each of whom implements that part of the program of a given subject for which he/she is scientifically competent. Depending on the circumstances, guest lecturers from the country and abroad are also engaged.
Each student's doctoral dissertation is supervised by mentors and tutors from the faculty. Their role is to constantly monitor the student's progress, advise them on the choice of subjects, and assist in the implementation of their research programs.
