Bee Biology Center

The Fruška Gora Beekeeping Observation Station, founded in 1957 within the Zoological Institute, with the purpose of scientific research and professional practice in beekeeping in an apiary with about 100 bee colonies, grew into the Center for Bee Biology of the Faculty of Biology at the end of 2006. The Center conducts scientific and professional research on domesticated (solitary and social) as well as wild bees.

Since 2007, the Center has been registered with the competent Ministry and Veterinary Office of the Republic of Serbia for the production of orchard bees (Osmia cornuta and O. bicornis), using its own technology.

Since 2010, the Center has established official scientific and technical cooperation with the Center for Beekeeping of the Faculty of Agriculture, which has provided our students with permanent professional practice and the opportunity for research and professional development at their apiary, on the "Radmilovac" demonstration farm.

The Center collaborates intensively with prominent European (AgriSos – Italy, Rijk Zwaan – Netherlands, Dr. Schubert Plant Breeding – Germany) and world centers (Koppert – Netherlands) and institutes that research the biology of various bee species. Teachers, associates and researchers from the Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Entomology and the Department of Animal Ecology and Zoogeography participate in the work of the Center.

The Center and the European Association for Bee Research (EurBee) successfully organized the 2022 EurBee9 Congress (eurbee9.bio.bg.ac.rs). The Center for Bee Biology has its own website at: srbee.bio.bg.ac.rs.

Since its establishment, the Center has been headed by Prof. Dr. Ljubiša Stanisavljević.
