Plant Resources Center

The Center for Plant Resources is one of the youngest centers of the Faculty of Biology. It was founded in 2021 within the Institute of Botany and the Botanical Garden "Jevremovac" at the initiative of the Department of Plant Morphology and Systematics. The first head of the center is Dr. Peđa Janaćković, full professor. The Center's activities include scientific research, professional research, educational, organizational, promotional and consulting activities in fundamental and applied areas of botany (morphology, anatomy, plant systematics - phytodiversity and phytochemistry).

Immediately after its establishment, the activities of the Center for Plant Resources were carried out in the direction of establishing contacts with various organizations and institutions that would be potentially interested in scientific or professional cooperation, as well as in using the services provided by the Center within its competences. Also, certain activities were carried out on popularization in terms of collecting the necessary material for the creation and design of an adequate website of the Center. Cooperation was established with the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments Belgrade. As a pilot project, wood sampling was carried out from wooden icons and other objects in order to establish the origin, i.e. determination of the plant species from which the icons were made. Work has begun on creating an ethnobotanical database of Serbia.

Intensive activities are underway to ensure a stable financial basis, space and equipment for the regular operation of the Center.
