That everything that is beautiful does not have to be unattainable, no matter what pessimists discuss, is an example of the BIO4 campus. A modern space covering almost 20 hectares, architecturally and essentially designed to concentrate in one location the leading human and scientific resources that our country possesses in the field of biology and related scientific fields.
Construction is planned to begin in the second half of 2023, and the institutions are expected to move in two years later (2025). Finally – Home! Dispersion remains solely in the domain of scientific research, as it should be.
The BIO4 campus is so named primarily because of its four dominant research areas: biomedicine (natural sciences in the service of clinical practice), biotechnology (creation of new processes in living systems), bioinformatics (use of information technologies and mathematical models in the analysis and interpretation of biological data) and biodiversity (the diversity of all living things on the planet). From an educational and scientific perspective, this capital project will have three faculties and eight scientific institutes (fully or partially represented) under its umbrella. The integrative and important segments of the BIO4 campus, for which many institutions and organizations of a commercial nature have already shown interest, will complement this project in a practical and picturesque way.
The Faculty of Biology can be considered the smallest common denominator of future countless activities in the territory of BIO4, an ideal ecosystem for innovation. Simply put, the future of the Faculty of Biology is inseparable from this project.
An important part of the Faculty of Biology that will not leave its position, but will only expand throughout the BIO4 campus, is the Botanical Garden Jevremovac. The new building of the Institute of Botany, located within Jevremovac, should become a reality in the even nearer future. Even a cursory observation of everything that is being prepared slowly leads to the conclusion that this country plans to invest considerable funds in biological sciences. Therefore, it is logical that the perspectives are also multiplying, at all levels.
As for the future of science itself, especially when it comes to biology, which is almost built on empiricism, it depends to a considerable extent on various types of investments. Since the bioeconomy, along with the development of artificial intelligence, is recognized as a real engine of progress, it is logical that these investments will occur. BIO4 campus is an obvious example. The talent and vision of scientific workers, when they are provided with the conditions, will make the already huge field of biology even more extensive. The only thing that is completely beyond all doubt in the future is the fact that the profession of a graduate biologist (ecologist, molecular biologist) will be increasingly valued and sought after. Day by day…
