Faculty today

The Faculty consists of three institutes with 14 departments and 16 centers. Currently, the Faculty of Biology employs 114 teachers and associates, as well as 110 researchers, while the number of active students is more than two thousand.

The Faculty of Biology consists of three institutes (Institute of Physiology and Biochemistry, Institute of Zoology and Institute of Botany and Botanical Garden "Jevremovac") with 14 departments, 10 centers, a vivarium and a herbarium scientific collection, where teaching and scientific research work take place. The faculty also has three libraries with numerous books and journals, some of which are of invaluable value.

Faculty teachers and associates are actively engaged in scientific research, through national, international (FP, SCOPES, COST, etc.) and bilateral scientific projects. The faculty cooperates with numerous scientific institutes and related faculties in the country, as well as with National Parks, the Research Station

Petnica, the Serbian Biological Society, the Center for the Promotion of Science and a number of health institutions and business organizations. The Faculty stimulates its students to get involved in scientific research work as early as possible, through the organization of the Science Fair, the allocation of funds for student participation in biology competitions and in projects of the Biological Research Society "Josif Pančić". In addition to other activities, for a number of years we have been organizing preparatory classes for taking the entrance exam for enrollment at the Faculty.

Despite the cramped space, the Faculty of Biology offers modern conditions for studying, and competent teachers and well-equipped gymnasiums, laboratories and research centers provide students not only with the latest biological knowledge, but also a wide field of scientific research guidance from the very beginning of their studies. Through the Center for Publishing and Marketing, the Faculty has printed a large number of textbooks and practical courses, so that almost all subjects in basic studies have an appropriate textbook. There are also student organizations at the Faculty that deal with various areas of student interests: from activities to improve student standards and study conditions, through scientific and sports competitions, to participation in the evaluation and reform of study programs.

All study programs at the Faculty of Biology have been reformed in accordance with the Bologna principles and are designed so that, in addition to the most modern general knowledge in biology, they also provide specific knowledge from certain narrower areas, developing genuine academic interest and competencies in students. In addition to the four-year undergraduate studies in Biology and the one-year master's studies in Biology, Professor of Biology, Molecular Biology and Physiology, Ecology and Professor of Ecology and Environmental Protection, the Faculty also offers doctoral studies in Biology, Molecular Biology and Ecology, as well as one-year specialist studies in Microbiology, Genetics and Immunobiology with Microbiology. Extensive fieldwork and research work, which takes place throughout the country, are an integral part of the programs of a large number of courses and provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with the methods of biological research in the field in the best and most direct way, and thanks to cooperation with many scientific institutions, students can gain research experience and complete final theses and doctorates in practically all areas of biology.

Diplomas from the Faculty of Biology are recognized all over the world, and many of our students are established scientists at the most famous universities and scientific centers around the world. The Faculty of Biology is particularly proud of this.
