"Scientific research, together with teaching, has been the most important segment of our activity since the very foundation of the predecessor of today's Faculty of Biology. Scientists (teachers, associates and researchers in scientific and research titles) employed at the Faculty, within the departments and centers in which they are engaged, conduct research within a wide range of scientific fields. Aware that nowadays the boundaries between different scientific disciplines, even between seemingly unrelated sciences, are increasingly blurred, our scientists are increasingly involved in work on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary projects.
The quality of education at prestigious universities is largely directly proportional to the quality and intensity of scientific work at them. All teachers and associates of the Faculty of Biology are actively engaged in scientific research within the framework of a large number of national and international projects.
In addition to 112 teachers and associates, the Faculty also employs 120 researchers who are engaged primarily in scientific research, but also in teaching at master's and doctoral levels, making the Faculty of Biology a leader among faculties in Serbia. The Faculty is accredited as a scientific research organization, with enviable scientific results and international cooperation.
In the past ten years, the Faculty has implemented more than 60 projects and published more than 3500 scientific publications. We particularly highlight three Horizon projects, as well as six Science Fund projects, the lead of which is the Faculty of Biology. The number of publications in top international journals (M21) and international journals of exceptional value (M21a) is increasing year by year. In the past ten years, more than 500 papers in the M21a and M21 categories have been published, of which more than half (285 papers) in the last three years. We particularly highlight the publications that our teachers, associates and researchers have published in journals such as Matite (Matige Sen Vlojodou, 2019) and 5sjepse (2022). In addition to these publications, we should especially highlight the great contribution to the realization of the exceptionally important scientific and professional monographic edition of the Red Book of Serbia, where our Faculty is one of the co-publishers of the first two Red Books: Reptiles and Amphibians.
In the past decade, the Faculty, independently or with the help of the competent Ministries, has significantly improved the conditions for scientific and research work, through the establishment of scientific and research centers, the adaptation of laboratories and the acquisition of modern equipment. The Faculty has signed cooperation agreements with a large number of scientific institutions in the country and abroad, of which the cooperation with the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković" and the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering should be particularly emphasized, with which the Faculty largely cooperates in the implementation of doctoral studies and scientific and research work. In addition to research work, the Faculty increasingly fosters innovative activity of teachers, researchers and students, who regularly win awards at innovation competitions and implement numerous innovation projects, and two startup companies have also been established.
In 2019, the Faculty of Biology established its official digital repository called "BioRe" . In the repository you can find a comprehensive and growing collection of scientific publications, doctoral dissertations, master's theses and projects that are the result of scientific research work of employees and students of our faculty. The goal of the repository "BioRe" is to unite, permanently preserve and enable open access to the scientific production of the Faculty of Biology in one place, thereby facilitating the exchange of knowledge and promoting our research. We invite you to visit "BioRe" and explore the rich scientific heritage of our institution.
