Strengthening Cooperation and Addressing Socio-Ecological Challenges within the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region
The project entitled "Strengthening cooperation and addressing socio-ecological challenges within the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region", (acronym 4PETHABECO) is implemented within the Interreg IPA ADRION programme. The aim of the project is to conserve large carnivore populations by testing innovative solutions for their protection and habitat restoration, strengthening green infrastructure, reducing conflicts with people and improving ecological connectivity. The long-term effects of the project will be ensured through the creation of joint strategies and action plans for the management of large carnivore populations in the Adriatic and Ionian region, but also through the protection and improvement of the connectivity of their habitats. This will further enable the implementation of the strategic objectives of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region within the international initiative PET HAB ECO. The total value of the project is estimated at approximately 1,67 million euros, of which 1,4 million euros is from the European Union fund (ADRION - Interreg program).
The lead partner of the project is the University of Udine (Italy). The project involves nine other partner institutions: the Mediterranean Institute for Environmental Research (Slovenia), the Hunting Association of Slovenia (Slovenia), the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade (Serbia), OIKON (Croatia), Arcturos (Greece), the Venetian Cluster (Italy), CZIP - Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (Montenegro), Igea MAK (North Macedonia), PPNEA (Albania), as well as seven associated partners, including NP Tara. The project started in 2024 and will last three years.
