The day of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Belgrade was celebrated

In the beautiful surroundings of the Botanical Garden "Jevremovac", the Day of the Faculty of Biology was traditionally marked, September 27th - the 171st anniversary of the beginning of higher education in biology in Serbia.

On Friday, September 27, 2024, in the beautiful surroundings of the Botanical Garden “Jevremovac”, the Day of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Belgrade was traditionally celebrated. This significant event marked the entry of the faculty into its 18th decade of existence, as well as the celebration of the 171st anniversary of the beginning of higher education in biology in Serbia, the 51st anniversary of the introduction of the study program in Molecular Biology and Physiology, and the 26th anniversary of the first study program in Ecology and Environmental Protection in Serbia.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Education, including State Secretary Prof. Dr. Ivica Radović and Assistant Minister Prof. Dr. Janko Samardžić, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, including Assistant Minister Dr. Marina Soković. In addition to them, the event was also attended by academicians of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, deans and vice-deans of faculties, institute directors, teachers, associates, researchers, students and retirees.

The Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Prof. Dr. Ljubiša Stanisavljević, welcomed the attendees and thanked the previous vice-deans for their cooperation, introducing the new vice-deans. In his speech, the Dean emphasized the importance of continuous development and improvement of teaching and research at the Faculty. The meeting was also addressed by the assistant ministers from both ministries.

Traditionally, awards were presented to the best undergraduate students, as well as the Stanka Romac Foundation “FOSTAR” award for the best doctoral thesis in the field of Human Molecular Genetics and Biomedicine. The “Ana Kocić” award was also presented for the best scientific research work of undergraduate students, and colleagues who retired in the current year were presented with special awards.

This event once again confirmed the importance and reputation of the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, in the academic and scientific community of Serbia.
